5 Reasons to leave London for Lincolnshire

The coronavirus pandemic has created some big shifts in how we’re living our lives. The enforced ‘lockdown’ has seen many more people working from home, children being home schooled and families spending more time together – and in particular, more time outside making the most of our daily exercise time. We’ve all felt the upheaval of these changes, but at the same time, it’s given us a chance to reflect on how our lives were before lockdown and opened our eyes to changes we may want to maintain once the restrictions are eased.
For those of you living in London, now cut off from the usual benefits of city life, such as the culture, convenience and career opportunities, we would like to invite you to look to the Lincolnshire countryside as a way of enjoying this different pace of life, while still being able to hold on to the best that city life has to offer. In this post, we’re sharing just five of the many advantages that Lincolnshire life has over London…
1) More bang for your buck
It’s no secret that London house prices are significantly higher than anywhere else in the country. In March 2020, the average house price in London was £485,794 as opposed to £194.664 in the East Midlands. It’s safe to say, that as a London homeowner, you’ll be able to get a lot more house for your money by buying in Lincolnshire. A very quick search shows that 500k in London gets you a 2 bed apartment with no garden, whereas in a village outside Newark you get a 2500 square foot detached house with a good size garden and a study for your home office
2) Lincolnshire schools
A recent article from Country Living revealed that, according to a study, North Lincolnshire is the best place in the country to raise children, with over 83% of schools being rated highly by Ofsted. In contrast, the study also showed that of the bottom ten places to raise kids, five of them were in London.
3) Easy commute
With great rail and road connections, commuting back to London is quick and easy. The A1 is close at hand and the train commute is only an hour or so from stations such as Grantham. It can take longer to get to Kings cross from many of the London suburbs!
4) Country living
One of the largest counties in the UK, Lincolnshire offers space, clean air and peaceful country living. You can enjoy the beauty of the Wolds or the Fens, visit one of the many National Trust sites or even go to the coast. If you’re looking for something a bit more vibrant, then try one of Lincolnshire’s many historical towns and cities, such as Lincoln, Stamford and Newark.
5) The food
It’s hardly surprising that Lincolnshire was once voted the nation’s ‘foodie capital’ in a survey by The Guardian. With rich silt soil, most of the country’s vegetable and cereal crops are grown here including potatoes, cauliflowers, carrots, Brussels sprouts, pumpkins, onions, wheat and barley. The county is also home to delicacies such as Plumbread, Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese, Haslet, Yellowbelly Cheese – and of course, the Lincolnshire Sausage.
